Rhetorical Adaptation Response
Due Sunday by 11:59pm Points 100 Submitting a file upload
After you have completed your rhetorical adaptation project, you will reflect critically on the adaptation process. This reflection consists of two parts. First, you will describe the specific ways in which you adapted your argument to a new audience and context and explain why you made the rhetorical choices that you did. Second, you will assess your adaptation on the basis of course learning outcomes. You will find prompts to guide both parts of your response below.
Part I. Rhetorical Choices and Adaptation Rationale
Which audience did you choose, and why? Which context and rhetorical situation did you choose, and why?
Which medium/genre did you choose, and how does that medium/genre speak to your chosen audience and context? Be specific. How did the medium/genre connect with your topic and argument?
Which parts of your original argument did you have to adapt for this new audience/context/genre? Again, be specific. Why did you need to make these changes?
How did the conventions of the medium/genre that you chose inform your adaptation? What did the medium/genre allow you to do? What did it prevent you from doing?
What challenges did you face in adapting your project? Which parts of the process were easy? What might you have done differently given more time and/or more resources?
How does your adaptation make use of ethos, logos, and pathos? How is it structured by the constraints of the rhetorical situation? What makes the adaptation persuasive?
Part II. Self-Assessment
After you turned in your persuasive research essay, you completed a self-assessment based on the VALUE rubric. For this self-assessment, I want you to choose one of the rubric criteria that you used in your first assessment and apply the same criteria to your adaptation. For example, if you assessed your persuasive research essay on the basis of âContent Development,â you can use that same criteria to assess your rhetorical adaptation.
In one to two paragraphs, describe how your adaptation project achieves the criteria as outlined by the rubric (available on Canvas). Be precise! Reference specific pieces of the project that serve as evidence for certain achievements or considerations.
Your complete response (including both Part I and Part II) should be 3-4 pages in length (double-spaced).
This assignment will be graded on the following criteria:
Strength of the responses to Part I prompts, including direct evidence to support claims and characterizations (50 pts.)
Strength of the responses to Part II prompts, including direct references to both the original essay and adaptation (40 pts.)
Adherence to formal conventions of academic writing and evidence of proofreading and careful editing (10 pts.)
You will produce the rhetorical adaptation that you pitched in the proposal last
