Structural Requirements:
You will be required to complete a FULL four (4) page, single-spaced research paper. More specifically, the actual content of the paper itself (NOT including the mandatory title page and NOT including a works cited/bibliography) must be a minimum of four (4) COMPLETE single-spaced pages long for full consideration. This assignment sheet is single-spaced so your paper should match it. The font size should be no larger than TWELVE (12). The font New Times Roman and character size for the text in this assignment sheet is 12, so your papers font and size should match this. The text of your paper should start one-inch from the top of the paper and end one inch from the bottom and this required for each page. Spacing between paragraphs should be ONE (1) enter throughout the entire paper. The distance between this paragraph and the one following is what your paper should look like. Basically, if you just write your paper without trying to “fudge” the length requirement by adding additional spacing, ridiculously large fonts, If the font and type size does not match it is an automatic 5 point deduction. If all margins are not in keeping with the instructions it is an automatic 5 point deduction. If the paper is not single-spaced throughout you will automatically lose an additional 5 points.
You must include a title page, with your name, course name and section, and a title for your paper. The title of your paper must be the thesis statement you developed in your proposal. You also must have a completed bibliography of all sources referenced using MLA citation format.
Title Page: You must have a separate title page and it should include your name, class and section, and title of your paper (your working thesis will be your title). Whatever else you wish to put in the title page is up to you, but you must at least include the above specifications.
Works Cited/Bibliography: A complete works cited/bibliography needs to be included at the end of your paper.
Source Requirements:
You must use a minimum of Four (4) qualified sources in your paper and those sources should be cited using MLA criterion. You must also include a bibliography/works cited page at the end of your paper. The ONLY sources you can use for this paper are:
~Scholarly Journal Articles: There is a link that fully explains what a peer-reviewed scholarly article is and I suggest you use it. TWO of the mandatory four sources must be scholarly articles!!!! You will have the two you need from your research proposal
~Books: You may utilize books by experts in their respective fields. NO BOOK REVIEWS or website/blog articles discussing the book. Also, you may NOT use your textbook or any of the course readings as cited sources toward the mandatory requirement. ~Newspapers Articles: ONLY these three outlets: The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune or The Washington Post. They MUST be ARTICLES from print issues and CANNOT be from a website/blog outlet. In-Text Citation Requirements:
You must use a minimum of FOUR (4) in-text citations from the sources you have collected. All FOUR in-text citations CANNOT be from one source, so you must utilize at least two (2) different sources when reaching the mandatory in-text citations. Substantive Requirements: You must use a MINIMUM of FOUR (4) specific sociological connections in your paper. These connections must reflect an understanding of class concepts by using theoretical applications of any area that we have studied throughout the term. Example: If you are investigating some sort of cultural inequality you can discuss Conflict Theory or the work of Karl Marx to aid in your analysis. You MUST use your textbook for sociological citations and provide the page numbers from the textbook where the terminology was located. Please remember that the paper is due at the start of class, BEFORE attendance on 12/07/22. Jefferson′s article provides an insight on what racism is overtime with plenty of examples. There is a broad analysis of biographical information of individuals labeled as racist revealed that people do not view themselves as racists and that conviction for a racially motivated crime does not distinguish between racists and non-racists. The study concluded that thinking about racism should move beyond the term′s abolition to include consideration of hatred, prejudice, and ″othering.″
Doane, Ashley. “What is Racism? Racial Discourse and Racial Politics”
One major point of contention in contemporary racial politics is whether a particular act, policy, or event constitutes racism. I contend that at the heart of these debates are opposing views on racism. Using text from various media sources, I investigate the various definitions of racism and how claims and counterclaims are contextualized. I also investigate how the dynamic nature of racial discourse leads to the emergence of new definitions of racism as advocates seek political advantage. Finally, I relate the contested concept of racism to two larger racial ideologies: colorblindness and systemic racism.
