Discuss what the Human Rights Campaign is
Introduce Yurida
This organization narrowed in on Yurida who was a 22-year old DACA recipient and sexual violence survivor apart of the LGBTQ community.
Her story mentioned how it was not until she was officially a DACA recipient
\”It was not until I had DACA that I felt human enough to walk into a police station and report my abuser. And DACA allowed that — for a moment — to allow me to feel a little more deserving in this country,\” Yuridia says. \”With the DREAM Act, it would mean a whole different life, I think — having lived in the shadows. No more silence on any identity.\”
Introduce connection to the text
TYurida is a prime example of how important the relationship between the LGBTQ community and DREAMERS community that was detailed in the book.
Members of both communities are faced with extreme adversity, specifically having difficulty with the difficulty in publicly disclosing their identities.
