In Unit 1, in your problem statement, you identified the social problem your program will be addressing, the target population, type of services, and setting. This week, you will expound upon the etiology of the social problem. In your primary post respond to the following questions:
What social problem(s) does your program address? What are the societal factors that contribute to the social problem(s)? Explain the micro, mezzo and macro level factors from a systems theory perspective. What political, religious and cultural values affect the problem, both historically and today? Last, what are the social and economic costs to society related to the social problem? Identify at least three academic scholarly references to back up and support your response.
I have attached my unit 1 assignment below for reference.
Outreach and Counseling Intervention
Homeless persons remain among the most vulnerable members of the Atlanta society that often grapple with sheltering challenges. These individuals range across all age brackets, with most adults attributing their state to a lack of income (Nooe & Patterson, 2010). One intervention I would apply to remedy their circumstances is through outreach and counseling the affected persons in Atlanta, which helps get them on their feet in the right direction.
This intervention adheres to NOHS guidelines regarding the ethical standard for a human service professional\’s responsibility to clients, which outlines a professional\’s duty to the community and society (Wark, 2010). The agency\’s primary objective shall be to address and remedy the homelessness situation in Atlanta by carrying out a root cause analysis through outreach and counseling.
Fundamentally, the agency shall fall under the home care and counseling psychology category. This intervention is designed to reach out to the homeless in Atlanta and point them to shelters or provide them with monetary support as part of the short-term intervention to enable them to find an immediate solution for basic amenities. The intervention further provides counseling as part of the long-term solution to identify the unique challenges that led to homelessness. A root cause analysis of the problem of homelessness often assists in crafting a lasting solution (Wright, 2009). Information from these sessions thus helps the agency to prepare unique solutions to each isolated homelessness case.
In conclusion, this approach is practical since the genesis of the problem of homelessness in Atlanta is different for all homeless persons. Some are homeless because of family feuds and abuse, while others are homeless because of financial situations. Some, like most children in Atlanta, are homeless because they lost their guidance to diseases or accidents, while other children may be homeless due to the abuse they are subjected to at home. Thus, the outreach and counseling approach to the homelessness situation in Atlanta is designed to help the homeless in the long and short term.

My teacher had a question about my last posting:
Ieashia, thank you for sharing your proposed program. As I was reading your post, I couldn\’t help but to wonder if you are going to specifically focus on children and adolescents who are experiencing homelessness or individuals in general? If it\’s the former, then you may have to look at connecting with the schools to get data on the number of children enrolled who fall under the protection of the McKinney Vento Act that allows children to enroll in school who are experiencing homelessness despite where they \”live.\” Let me know your thoughts.
