HLT 215- Nutrition Diet Analysis Journal Project Instructions
For this project, you are to keep a journal of your eating and exercise habits on two occasions (1st part- baseline assessment food journal and 2nd part- post-assessment food journal) during the entire semester. The 3rd part of the food journal makes up a written paper that describes your experience, and the analysis of your eating and physical activity patterns about your personalized recommendations from the \”Dietary Guidelines\” (from the \”choosemyplate\” website) and the concepts learned in class. For this project, you must follow the instructions given and use only the forms provided on the Blackboard and follow the format requested. This project count for 30% of the final course grade.
1st part-Baseline Assessment Food Journal (4 required steps)
1- In the food intake form and the physical activity-tracking form (both found in the blackboard \”All Journal Forms\” area), you will record and analyze all the food that you eat for two consecutive days (in the food intake form) and the physical activity that you do or don\’t (in the activity-tracking form).
2- Use the USDA Food Guide from the class textbook (pg. 37-48) to reference food portion size and the www.choosemyplate.gov website. Visit this website to get your \”My Plate Plan\” with the daily recommendations for food and their amounts that are right for you as well as the physical activity plan. (Go to FIND RESOURCES area).
Visit www.choosemyplate.gov website and get your \”MyPlate Plan,\” here is how:
a- at the website, press on \”Resources\” and \”tool\” area and click on \”MyPlate Plan\”;
b- once there, press on \”Get Your MyPlate Plan\” and provide your personal information as asked; depending on your weight, you will get one or two options- \”calories to achieve healthy weight\” or \”calories to maintain current weight,\” make your choice. The website will give you the \”My Plate plan\” with the recommended daily calorie intake based on the number of portions for each food group;
c- \”Choosemyplare\” website changed recently, and it doesn\’t offer the PDF option. Just \’cut and paste\’ or take a screenshot of the information regarding your eating plan.
d- the information regarding your daily food intake recommendations must be added into the \”Food Intake\” form on the bottom area where it says \”Recommended number of servings/ounces/equivalents.\”
3- After recording your actual food intake and analyzing it by food group and portion size, you need to compare your actual food intake and physical activity (what you wrote in the \”food intake\” form and the \”physical activity\” form) with the USDA Food Guide recommendations from \”MyPlate plan\” specifically designed for you (found in www.choosemyplate.gov). Use the class textbook (USDA Food Guide pp. 37-48) to reference the food groups and portion size. Calculate the difference between your recommendations from the website (written in the Recommended numbers of servings/ounces/equivalents space on the food intake form) and the analysis of your food intake (written in the \”actual food intake\” area) and write it down in the form designated area.
4- Based on your analysis of the recommendations and your actual food intake, write (type) a \”plan of action\” that includes improving your current eating and physical activity habits to follow the recommendations given. Discuss your physical activity in the \”Physical Activity Form\” housed in Blackboard. The plan of action should be 1 FULL page long.
You need to submit all four parts (5 documents) to get full credit (33 points):
1. 1 physical activity form completed
2. 2 food intake forms (different days) analyzed and completed
3. The Website personal eating plan recommendations
4. 1 full-page (normal margins/font 12) Post-assessment write-up
Note: save the documents on your computer as world documents and upload them to the assigned area. Ensure all documents are uploaded correctly into Blackboard (BB will let you know if not). If you make a mistake uploading the documents, keep trying until you do it correctly; otherwise, I will not be able to see it, and you will get zero (0) points.
Follow instructions and use the forms available in the Blackboard \”Test Review and Journal forms\” area.
