For this assignment, choose a dyad you are a part of in your family (e.g., you and your mom, you and your sibling, you and your cousin, etc.).
Complete the Personal Listening Style Profile (Links to an external site.) for yourself. If you’d like to do so, you may have the other person complete it is as well but this is NOT required. NOTE: You do NOT need to complete page 4 of the Personal Listening Style Profile and you do NOT need to turn in the completed profile.
With the relationship you selected in mind, write an analysis in paragraph format (an effective analysis is typically 2 pages in length) addressing these areas:
– According to the results of your Personal Listening Style Profile (Links to an external site.), what type of listener are you? Explain why you believe this is or is not accurate using specific examples from your own life. Note: You do NOT need to complete page 4 of the Personal Listening Style Profile or turn in the completed profile.
– What type of listener do you believe your family member is? Note: the other person doesn’t need to take the Personal Listening Style Profile. You can make a choice and explain why you picked it.
– As described in the video lecture and in your textbook, apply all of the components of listening to a recent conversation you’ve had with your family member whose listening style you identified. Please explain the component and provide a specific example for each of them from the same conversation. Note: Please refer to the section in the textbook entitled “Components of Listening” for this question. You must apply each of the components to the same conversation with your family member.
– Using the information from the textbook and the supplemental resources for this week, what listening barrier(s) were evident in the conversation you applied the listening components to with your family member? You must identify the barriers for the same conversation that you applied the listening components to.
– Using the information from the textbook, identify the type(s) of listening response you used and/or your family member used during the same conversation that you applied the listening components to.
Submit your answer by uploading a file using the appropriate link in this week’s module. Please use either Word (.docx or .doc) or Rich Text File format for uploading your file. Name the file using your last name followed by your first name followed by the name of the assignment (e.g., Ward Susan Effective Listening).
Please use Edited Standard Written English including checking your spelling and grammar (see the syllabus for more information). Also, please use MLA format as necessary for source citations.
This task counts toward your homework grade for the course and will be graded using the homework grading rubric located in the syllabus.
