Reading Response : Spectacles and Spectacular Spaces for Spectator Sport Here is the structure of the response: You will write two or three sentences on each reading, summarizing one or two of its key points in your own words (not using direct quotes). Seriously, keep it brief. After writing the summaries, you will then write a brief overall paragraph (not one for each reading) that brings your own voice to bear on the issues and ideas at hand. You will apply one or more concepts from the readings to your own experiences and observations, to something happening in the news, to something in pop culture, or the like. I also encourage you to review and reply to your classmates\’ posts. Each response will receive a 1, 2, or 3. To receive the full 20% for the semester (highly difficult), you need an average of 2.5. Getting all 2s will give you the equivalent of a grade of B+. I may give fractions of points (like a or a ). Par of the rubric used to assess this aspect of the course goes as such: 1 point: You show a poor understanding of the concepts, do not apply them appropriately to your own thoughts or experiences. 2 points: You show a good understanding of the concepts and apply them appropriately to your own thoughts and experiences. 3 points: You show an exceptional engagement with the readings and the issues they present, and demonstrate an outstanding originality and sophistication of thought. Note: You can demonstrate sophistication while remaining brief. This is a skill that will be rewarded. While it should not be too difficult to get 2 points for each response, it will be difficult to receive a higher score unless you put a good amount of thought, effort, and sophistication into your response.
