To begin your search, review the Boolean Searching tab in the IWU OCLS Introduction to Research Guide to help guide your searches for articles on your topic.
Navigate to the threaded discussion below and respond to the following discussion prompts:
Application: Searching for Articles
Go to the IWU Off-Campus Library Service (OCLS) Homepage and select âEBSCO eBooksâ under the Find Your Book section. You will be prompted to log with your IWU username and password if you are not already logged in.
Choose a database. âAcademic Search Completeâ would be a good starting point. You can use the IWU link to Article Databases to select a different database by subject, as well.
Begin searching using your keywords.
Conduct at least three searches using keywords/synonyms related to your research question (problem statement), and record your search results, including the number of articles found and the best results for your given topic. Make sure that âPeer-Reviewedâ is selected when you conduct your search.
Share your research statement, keywords, and resources you identified for each search in your discussion post.
Choose three articles that best fit your research question. Copy and paste the abstracts into your post.
Application: Checking for Peer-Reviewed Journals

Go to Ulrichsweb.
You will be prompted to log with your IWU username and password if you are not already logged in.
Find the search box to complete the following activities.
Using the advanced search box, type the journal name from your chosen article.
Under âMore Limiters,â select the filter âRefereed/Peer-Reviewed.â
Conduct the search with your journal title. Is it peer-reviewed? Record your results. If it is not peer-reviewed, note this in your discussion post and conduct another search, locating a new article from a journal that is peer-reviewed and meets your research question criteria.
Repeat this step for all three articles/journals you identified in the first part of this activity.
Explain how each article represents scholarly literature and how it aligns with your topic. Save each article (and your supporting explanations); you will use them for your literature review.
Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.
Your posts should be between 200 and 300 words long.
Include your three references at the end of your post.
