Record everything you eat and drink over a period of 24-hours.
Analyse the nutritional content of your 24-hour dietary recall using Nutritics (do not use any other dietary assessment package). Look at all the macronutrients and choose three relevant micronutrients to focus on (you must justify your choices with appropriate references).
Compare the nutritional intake to appropriate UK Dietary Reference Values.
Write a scientific report about the adequacy of your days diet, how it compares to the appropriate dietary references values, how nutritionally adequate it was and how it could be improved.
Assessment Criteria:
Utilise relevant knowledge on energy and macronutrients.
Show evidence of independent study
Use correct academic writing style and give facts, recommendations, detail and examples as appropriate with correct Harvard referencing.
Marking criteria
Title (5%) Please choose an appropriate title for the report
Introduction (10%) Provide a short introduction (one or two paragraphs will be sufficient) to give some background detail and introduce the task.
Methods (15%) Explain the methods used to both collect (including whether amounts of food items were weighed or estimated) and analyse the dietary data (Nutritics) and compare them to appropriate dietary reference values. Also state which three micronutrients you choose to analyse and why you chose them.
Results (25%) In this section you need to include a copy of your 24-hour dietary recall and a table of your nutritional assessment. You can include the full Nutritics report as part of the appendices. You should include a short paragraph to give a desсrіptive summary of the main results within this section.
Discussion (25%) Use your knowledge of nutrition, health and physical activity issues to discuss the results and the adequacy of your diet. Compare the intake calculated for the nutrients with the appropriate UK dietary reference values. Did you meet macro and micronutrient recommendations? Could your diet be improved? Make appropriate recommendations to help improve your diet. What are the limitations of this method of dietary assessment?
Conclusions (5%) Give a concluding summary of your main findings, avoid giving new information
References (10%) Correct in text referencing, you should include a reference list of all sources you have used, using the LJMU Harvard referencing system.
Appendices (5%) Include the full Nutritics report to show you have correctly analysed your diet and any other relevant materials you have used that are not specified above.
