Overview
This project will consist of a 7-10 page essay. Note this is at least 7 pages of text and does not include the bibliography. The student will choose a topic covered in the book and lectures and conduct a cross cultural analysis. This means they will explore this topic by examining two modern cultures. (No ancient Egypt or Classic Mayan culture, please.) This is a chance for the student to explore the concepts covered in class in more depth. For instance, a student could compare religious belief systems of the Navajo and Trobriand Islanders. You must cite at least five academic or scholarly sources in your bibliography. (At this stage, stick journal articles, books, and chapters. Websites ending in .org, .gov, or .edu are acceptable.) For sources the instructor recommends https://scholar.google.com. Note: some data bases require payment for release of sources. You may be able to find these sources within library databases for free.
Objectives
There is only a limited amount of time in class or space in the book explore the various aspects of the topics covered. This will allow the student a chance to go deeper into the chosen concept and see how these things differ between cultures. This will also be an opportunity to for the student to get practice doing a research paper.
Format and Sequence
This will be a research paper. The choice of the two cultures and the topic is up to the student. I strongly recommend topic headings for each topic discussed.
topic choices
stratification / political orginization
Format:
The papers must be in standard format with 1â margins and page numbers. Please use a serif font such as Times New Roman (what these directions are written in) as they are easier to read. The paper should be double spaced, but no extra space between paragraphs. Paragraphs should be indented. Paragraphs should be indented. For the bibliography and proposal, APA format is required.
Failure to use the appropriate format (for format chosen) will constitute a loss of 10 points. Lack of a bibliography will be subject to a loss of 10 points. Any paper where there is no sign of any documentation will be an automatic F. You have been warned.
