An ethnography is a scientific description of the customs of individual peoples and cultures. In this assignment, you will write an ethnography about a vernacular aspect of your own culture or subculture. This differs from a biography which is a simple account of one’s life. In this assignment, the subject of ethnographic description is you as a member of the culture you belong to. As a geographic authoethnography spatial themes of place and space should also be present. Trace your own ethnobiography through a particular vernacular aspect of your culture. Discuss how the cultural geography has helped shaped who you are as a member of that culture (and, if you wish, who your ancestors were). Trace the significant influences the vernacular phenomenon has had on you and your identity. Detail how this aspect of your culture is produced, reproduced, and consumed in everyday ways. How was it transmitted to you and how did it become part of your everyday life? Essentially, what is the significant meaning?
Source, Format, Organization & Length Requirements Minimum Source Requirement: Synthesize library research, observations, and your own knowledge from course content and personal experience. Use at least 2 citable sources (see Evaluating Sources resources provided). Formatting: Paper of 2-3 pages of text + cover + works cited in Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced, 1\” margins OR 5-8 minute video with audio content and works cited on screen. Citation Style: APA format required (if producing a video cite sources verbally and include a Works Cited \”slide\” or image).

Organization: The work must include – Cover page or introduction statement – Title, your name, assignment & option, instructor, and date. Body Text that includes: Introduction – provide context, state topic and research question, and give the reader a roadmap for where the paper is going.
Focus – explain your critical analysis. This should include both the method used and the findings of your research. Use supportive evidence from your source material (See Critical Analysis in Writing handout).
Conclusion – let the reader know what you concluded, or learned, from the evidence. Answer the research question. Show how you supported your argument. Do not simply restate your introduction or summarize your paper.
